Production Apprentice

Type
Part-time · On-site production and remote editing
Location
Central Florida
Compensation
$18 – $22/hr, hourly W-2, by stage

Seashell Studios is seeking a Production Apprentice to train in professional film production. The role covers filming and editing across commercial, branded, wedding, and church work, under the direction of the studio’s creative director. Prior experience is welcome but not required.

What this is

This is a long-term training position, not temporary or per-project work. The apprentice is brought in early, trained to the studio’s standards, and given increasing responsibility as competence is demonstrated. The role is structured as a progression toward independent production work.

About Seashell Studios

Seashell Studios is a production studio based in Central Florida, producing cinematic wedding films, commercial and branded work, and documentary and narrative projects to a consistent standard of craft. The studio operates as a team rather than a single operator and is expanding.

The studio invests in its early team members. Hours, scope, and responsibility expand with the studio rather than remaining fixed, and this position is intended to develop into a senior role.

Availability

This role is not on call. Two windows must stay open each week, and work is scheduled within them as far in advance as possible.

Monday – Wednesday
Flexible availability for production days, edits, and client delivery.
Saturday evenings
Service recording edits, minimum two hours, every week.

Short-notice work falls outside these windows. Some client projects are scheduled within 12 to 24 hours; those requests are occasional and optional, not a condition of the role. Onboarding is fully on-site with the creative director, and remote editing begins at Stage 1.

What you will do

The position supports the full range of studio output rather than a single account: weekly church content, commercial and branded projects, event coverage, and wedding films. Assignments follow whatever is in production.

  • Edit recorded services to the studio’s template and delivery standards on a consistent weekly turnaround. Editing is performed on-site initially, moving to remote once the creative director signs off on the work
  • Edit additional projects as assigned, including announcement films, social cutdowns, event recaps, branded work, and wedding films
  • Operate studio-provided camera equipment on shoots under supervision, progressing toward independent capture
  • Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and on-site logistics
  • Manage media offloads, footage organization, and equipment preparation between shoots
  • Represent the studio on client sites, including corporate, event, and faith-based settings
  • Communicate with clients and partners to confirm requirements and support accurate delivery

What we are looking for

  • Availability Monday through Wednesday and Saturday evenings. Both windows are firm requirements; applicants without both available should not apply
  • Reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel. Work is based in the Saint Cloud and Lake Nona area, and some locations require significant drive time. Travel per diem is available on a case-by-case basis
  • A functional home editing setup, or willingness to establish one, as remote editing begins at Stage 1. Equipment may be provided at the studio’s discretion where a setup is not available
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and accept direction. Prior camera or editing experience is preferred but not required; retention of instruction and initiative carry more weight
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. The role involves direct client contact, at times unsupervised, and requires the judgment to interpret a stakeholder’s intent and uphold studio standards under disagreement
  • Professional presentation and conduct, particularly on client sites
  • Willingness to work respectfully in faith-based and church settings. Shared faith is not required
  • Composure under pressure, sound problem-solving, and flexibility when schedules change

Pay and progression

Stage 0 — Onboarding
$18/hr
On-site for all shoots and all edits, learning studio workflow, equipment, and delivery standards. Typically one to two months.
Stage 1 — Remote edit
$20/hr
Service edits move to remote on the creative director’s sign-off. Production work continues on-site with the team.
Stage 2 — Independent
$22/hr
Cleared to film and deliver independently and to represent the studio with clients.

What to expect

Part-time, hourly, W-2. Approximately 8 to 20 hours per week depending on stage and production volume. At those hours the position does not constitute a full-time income, and most people in the role will hold other employment alongside it; the defined availability windows exist so that other work can be planned around.

Hours and scope expand as the studio grows. Hiring includes a short trial period of paid trial shifts so that both parties can confirm fit before a formal offer is made.
